Did you know adoption is a choice that’s full of options?

Today’s adoptions are fully customizable, depending on your preferences.

If you’re considering adoption, you will work closely with an adoption coordinator to create the perfect adoption plan.

What’s an Adoption Plan?

An adoption plan outlines what you want to happen in the adoption process.

Three types of adoption plans are adaptable and include:

  1. Open Adoption: As the name suggests, this is the most open type of adoption. This adoption plan is for you if you want to have open communication between you, the adoptive family, and your child. If you choose open adoption, you will work with the adoptive family to decide how often you want to communicate and in what ways (over the phone, in person, etc.).
  2. Semi-Open Adoption: This option is similar to open adoption, but all communication is mediated by a third party (like the adoption agency). This protects your identifying information, like your full name, physical or email address, and phone number.
  3. Closed Adoption: Unlike the other two adoptions, with a closed adoption, you won’t know anything about the adoptive family or child, and they won’t know anything about you.

Is Adoption Right for Me?

Only you can decide if adoption is right for you, but talking to an adoption counselor can help. An adoption counselor will walk you through the adoption process to ensure that you understand how it works and can anticipate how you might feel.

At the Pregnancy Help Center, we can refer you to a reputable adoption agency. We also offer free Options Consultation appointments, giving you information and the space to explore your options and ask questions. This is an essential first step before making any pregnancy decision.
